Collected Company and Aggro decks

The possible aggro decks with this card are: GW, Mono U , RG, Abzan warriors, GBx aggro , Mono Green, Temur. Let's try them one by one. Firstly, I would like to see it in Mono Blue Devotion  deck. The creature part of a mono blue deck is like this: Master of Waves 4 Shorecrasher Elemental 4 Thassa, God of the Sea 4 Triton Shorestalker / Gudul Lurker 4 Hypnotic Siren 4 Mindreaver / Chasm Skulker/ Stratus Dancer 4 Cloudform 4 Hall of Triumph 2 Bident of Thassa 2 Collected Company  4 11 Islands 4 Temple of Mystery 4 Mana Confluence 4 Yavimaya Coast If we have a Thassa in play and we know about one third of our library are creatures(excluding other copies of Thassa and Cloudform), then it's likely that we 'll get 2 creatures. Depending on the mana combination, it is not hard to realize three more U on Devotion. With 1-2 blue auras/enchantments/creatures on the battlefield, Collected Company ensures us a 5/5 Thassa the next turn. Even if we don't contr

Aggro and midrange decks with Duress and Thoughtseize

I think some UB optimists welcomes the reprinting of Duress in the new set but I would like to remind them one thing: over the past decade, whenever Duress was reprinted and there was another effective discard spell, aggro and midrange decks with discard spells performed much better than pure control decks. You may go and check the past data of top 8 decks for the real situations. In this Standard, it's likely that a GB deck is splashed with another color so that we get Abzan, Sidisi or the long-forgotten Jund. I 'll first make a GB shell for us to fill in other colors: Duress 2-4 Thoughtseize 2-4 Elvish Mystic 4 Silumgar Assassin 4 Den Protector 4 Rakshasa Deathdealer 4 /  Pain Seer 4 Deathmist Raptor 4 Hero's Downfall 4 Bile Blight 3 Ultimate Price ? Collected Company? Whisperwood Elemental ? Tasigur, the Golden Fang ? Doomwake Giant ? Sidisi, Undead Vizier ? The synergy among the following cards looks powerful, but does it work in reality? Sheltered Aerie, Nissa and the trend of ramp decks

It  seems natural to print mana cards for the ease to cast Tarkir dragons, which almost all cost over 5 mana. Sheltered Aerie on a forest can easily generate 10+ mana with Nissa, Worldwaker or Voyaging Satyr in play. But The mana may not be all used on Dragons. Ugin is another good choice and in theory all high mana spells are worth trying. Getting Ugin on turn 8 is one thing but on turn 4, it devours everything! Though we have Haven of the Spirit Dragon to bring it back to life, the best way to build around Ugin is probably adding 4 copies to deck. I 'll keep a close eye on Ugin for the next few weeks and make updates on this post, so keep revisiting this page. Mono Blue Devotion

Finally, I 'll write about Mono Blue. I have posted articles about Mono Black and Mono Red . For people who want to know what cards I will buy and sell in the coming month, here is an ever-updating page: Cards to collect and sell . I found some cards going well with Blue devotion: Mindreaver (UU) I expect another UU card in Dragons of Tarkir will fill the slot. Encrust (1UU) It doesn't tap the creature but I like the UU mana cost. Cloudform (1UU) A hexproof flyer. Bident of Thassa (2UU) Jace, the Living Guildpact (2UU) What we don't have at this moment: Early damage cards. This is a problem backfiring all plans for Devotion, except the green one. Last year,  Mono black devotion was equipped with Pack Rat and  Desecration Demon, both are finishers; while Mono Blue always dropped Cloudfin Raptor turn 1 to start beating. They have nothing comparable in this Standard. The hope is on Dragons and Magic Origins. After reading the full list of Dragons on 14th

Mono Red Devotion

Will devotion come back in the new Standard? There is no card better than Dragon Whisperer for red devotion. Not only does it contribute RR to devotion but its 1R:+1 ability brings back Flamewake Phoenix ( Ferocious) . I like Flamewake Phoenix. But on paper, it has a promo version. It's likely that it's designated to be printed as a player's reward card( much like what they did on Chandra's Phoenix ). Do you like Ashcloud Phoenix more? Is it better than Thunderbreak Regent? Or reverse? No matter what the answers are, Regent is the most likely a replacement for Stormbreath Dragon after rotation. The list: Mountains 22 Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx 2 or 2 more Mountains Dragon Whisperer 4 Eidolon of the Great Revel  4 Flamewake Phoenix  4 Goblin Rabblemaster  4 Ashcloud Phoenix  2 Thunderbreak Regent 2 Fanatic of Mogis  2 Purphoros, God of the Forge  1 Outpost Siege  2 Chandra, Pyromaster  2 Stoke the Flames /   Hordeling Outburst

Cards to collect and sell

When I was writing about black devotion in the next standard, the triple U elemental aroused a possibility for blue devotion. I rushed to collect Master of Waves but totally forgot Thassa is a part of Blue devotion deck. Next time, I should be more sensitive on card choice. Beside Shorecrasher Elemental, I guess there will be another UU creature in Dragons. Hush, not many people found it yet. A few hours ago, Battle for Zendikar was announced. Together with the announcement of Tempest Remastered and the release of Vintage Master, it shows that more and more "secure" investments are now under the risk of falling. No longer can we buy and hold a single card for months. While we can balance out the risk by collectiong a range of cards from a certain set/format. So far, I found they are pushing blue control decks again. From draw spells like Anticipate and Dragonlord's Prerogative to removals like Silumgar's Command to Narset Transcendent, it's not hard to see th

The Return of Black Devotion

Many things happened this week. Tempest Remastered is announced; Nothing can I trust in old cards anymore. Rebound is confirmed as a mechanism in Dragons of Tarkir; I started to collect Monastery Mentor. I am also busy drafting Fate Khans Khans, during which I found a possible card for Black devotion: Ancestral Vengeance. In a draft, I didn't read clearly the text and put it on one of my creatures, without a choice, I put the +1/+1 on it too. I thought it add -1/-1 counter on another creature and make its target +1/+1. Whatever it does, I can put it on a creature for devotion.  The spoiled cards like Risen Executioner and Sidisi, Undead Vizier have given me some ideas of what a black devotion deck is like.    The deck may be like this one: Risen Executioner 4 Gray Merchant of Asphodel 4 a three drop zombie 4 Hero's Downfall 4 Ancestral Vengeance 4 Other removals 4-6 Palace Siege 2-4 Whip of Erebos 2 Thoughseize 4 a card drawing spel
