Control side of the next standard

Picking card to collect, we look at their future values. When a new deck type is showing signs of getting popular after the adding of a new set, I first choose cards based on the colors of the deck type. This time, I expect UB or UW control to come back.

In a control deck, it likely for us to use 4 copies of Dig Through Time. Pearl Lake Ancient and Jace, the Living Guildpact can also be something we need.

The fetchlands, especially Polluted Delta and Flooded Strand are good to buy but we must be patient, as KTK will be heavily drafted during prerelease. Then, cards from the set will keep dropping until the third set releases. We have plenty of time to buy.

Something I feel confused is the effects of Soulfire Grand Master and Monastery Mentor on tri-color control decks. Frankly, they themselves make up a combo that can constantly burn, counter, draw, give out tokens, depending on the spells you cast. Even when players only gets either of them on the battlefield, with sufficient mana and spells, they can take control some aspects of the game and will eventually win. So, what will happen in the Standard?

If decks using these two cards are dominating, we should focus both on cards compatible to them and the cards that can beat these decks. I think Thoughtseize, Drown in Sorrow, Bile Blight and other black removal cards are good against them. In some ramp decks, we can consider Ugin, the Spirit Dragon as the solution to them.

I am starting to stream for 1-2 hours a day, if you are interested to see some fun games and know more about trading on MTGO, find me on Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/lotus_ring!

GWx Starfield of Nyx Deck

People say Magic Origins is a down-graded set. To me, It feels more like Ice Age then Khans in the variety of card functions and types. Of course, Ice Age was a fun deck, weakness never harms the entertaining level of cards. Starfield of Nyx  is an interesting one. It goes perfectly into enchantment decks evolved during late Theros Standard. Win conditions: 1. Bring Chromanticore into play from grave. 2. Attack with animated enchatments for winning. 3. Bring Whip of Erebos into play and reanimate Hornet Queen. 4. Bring Sigil of the Empty Throne into play 5. Assault Formation + high toughness creatures Removals: End Hostility Banishing Light     Doomwake Giant Defense: Nyx-Fleece Ram Courser of Kruphix Card Advantages: Ephara, God of the Polis Commune with the Gods Satyr Wayfinder Eidolon of Blossoms Gather the Pack Combos: Starfield of Nyx  + everything /  Font of Vigor Ephara, God...

Magic Origins preview

1. Avarcious Dragon With four mana 4/4 flying - the new standard for usable dragons - Avaricious Dragon give you one more card per turn but force you to discard you hand at the end of turn. It's actually a walking  Grafted Skullcap. What is Grafted Skullcap? you've never heard of it? Right, that's because it's never been used in serious decks since it first appeared in Urza's Saga set 17 years ago. I don't think this dragon will not be more active than Thunderbreak Regent in competitive decks after rotation. Look at the visage of the guy wearing it. Still, I made a deck around it: GR reanimates Creatures: 4 Deathmist Raptor 4 Den Protector 4 Flamewake Phoenix 4 Ashcloud Phoenix 4 Avaricious Dragon  Others: whatever you want (I am not quite in the mode right now) Some lands 2. Starfield of Nyx At the beginning of your upkeep, you may return target enchantment card from your  graveyard to the battlefield. As long as you contr...
